Carmelo Anthony set the New York Knicks franchise record for points in a quarter against the Washington Wizards on Thursday night.

Carmelo Anthony is one of the best scorers in the NBA. He already has some New York Knicks record to his name, and on Thursday against the Washington Wizards he added another one.

Anthony set the franchise record for points in a quarter when he scored 25 points in the second quarter Thursday. The scoring outburst came virtually out of nowhere, as Anthony had been struggling with his shot.

Anthony was only 5-of-14 from the field in the Knicks last game against the Boston Celtics. He started slow against the Wizards as well, going 1-of-3 to start the game. He also had this embarrassing airball in the quarter as well.

It was such a poor shot that Anthony just smiled and laughed going up the court. Maybe it was because he knew what he was going to accomplish later in the game. Anthony came out in the second quarter like a new player.

He would torch the Wizards in the second quarter, pouring in 25 of the Knicks’ 40 points in the quarter. He was absolutely unstoppable, as the Wizards had no answer. Anthony got going in the pick-and-roll with Kristaps Porzingis, getting Jason Smith switched onto him. Smith had no chance slowing down Anthony, as he drilled jumpers over him off the dribble and even beat him going to the basket.

Markieff Morris tried his hand at defending Anthony but also found little success in slowing him down.

Anthony would shoot 10-of-12 from the field in the quarter, including 3-of-5 from beyond the three-point line. One of his two misses was a heave from half court with the shot clock running out.

It was an excellent quarter for Anthony, who added three rebounds and one assist along with the 25 points. Unfortunately, Anthony was unable to sustain his hot shooting into the second half.

Anthony would go 2-of-10 from the field after halftime. The Knicks would be outscored in the third quarter by 15 points, erasing the 12 point edge they had in the second quarter. It would result in yet another tough loss for the Knicks, who fell to the Wizards 110-107.

Anthony would finish the game with 34 points, going 13-of-27 from the field, making 3-of-7 from the three-point line and 5-of-7 from the foul line. He also added 10 rebounds, two assists and one steal with only one turnover in 34 minutes.
