Brooklyn Nets Rumors: The team is reportedly listening to offers for second-year forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson.

Brooklyn Nets rumors have circulated for a majority of the season. In full rebuild mode, the Nets are looking to stockpile future assets knowing that wins will be far and few in the immediate future. It will be a long climb out of the hole that Billy King put them in a few years ago, but there is hope with Sean Marks and Kenny Atkinson leading the way.

Despite their lack of draft picks, the Nets have done a decent job compiling some younger talent. They look to have found a diamond in the rough with Sean Kilpatrick, while Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Caris LeVert offer some potential as well. People are souring on fellow first round pick Chris McCullough, but he didn’t make his NBA debut until February in his rookie season, so he has not even been on the court for a full year since recovering from ACL surgery.

More from Brooklyn Nets

None of those players project as stars for the Nets, but it is better than nothing. They have to start the rebuild somewhere, and those players provide a decent foundation. But, Hollis-Jefferson may not be long for the rebuild.

Much of the talk this season with the Nets has involved Brook Lopez on the trade front, and rightfully so. Lopez has by far the most value on the Nets and would bring back quite a haul. He would greatly improve a team’s halfcourt offense as a legit go-to scorer.

He is not the only player the Nets are listening to offers on, as Hollis-Jefferson has also been discussed. No one seems to be off the table for the Nets, who will look to restock the cupboard that King sucked dry. ESPN’s Zach Lowe reports the Nets are listening to teams calling about Hollis-Jefferson, and rightfully so.

Hollis-Jefferson is only 22-years old and has already established himself as a good defender. He has the ability to defend multiple positions and brings it every night with his energy and hustle. A defensive-minded player can always find his way into a rotation, but Hollis-Jefferson leaves a lot to be desired offensively.

His shooting percentage has dropped to 38.1 percent this season and 24.2 from beyond the arc after shooting 45.7 percent in his rookie season and 28.6 percent from deep. His efficiency at the rim has fallen off this season and is shooting only 31 percent on jump shots compared to 38.9 percent on jumpers last season.

While his offense clearly needs work, a team could have a use for his defensive abilities. He can be inserted into the starting lineup as a defensive stopper in the mold of Tony Allen with the Memphis Grizzlies, or as a defensive ace off the bench like the Boston Celtics use Marcus Smart.

Hollis-Jefferson is young enough that he can still grow offensively. Will the Nets be willing to wait for him to try and realize that potential? Or will they feel inclined to move him for more assets, opening up more playing time for someone with a higher ceiling in LeVert?

Time will only tell. But for a team with the worst record in the NBA at 8-31, the Nets will be a team worth keeping an eye on in the coming weeks as the NBA Trade Deadline approaches.
