Derrick Rose disappeared from the New York Knicks before their game Monday night, citing a family situation as the reasoning for it.

Derrick Rose put a scare into his New York Knicks teammates and fans as he was not present for their game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Rose went missing from the team, as no one was aware of his whereabouts when they were preparing to take the court against the Pelicans.

Rose would reach out to team officials later, saying that he returned to Chicago for a family situation according to ESPN sources. The Knicks were nervous enough about Rose that they checked on him at his apartment.

It was a weird situation, as Rose was present at the Knicks shootaround this morning in Westchester according to teammates Kristaps Porzingis and Courtney Lee. Lee said that he was praying everything was alright with Rose. Porzingis would share the same sentiments, saying, “We don’t know what’s going on. Hopefully, he and his family are good, too.”

It was a situation in which almost everyone was left in the dark. Moments before tip-off the Knicks announced that Rose had been scratched, but provided no other details. Details are still scarce, and his absence from the team was not something head coach Jeff Hornacek discussed with the media during his presser before the game.

After the game, Hornacek shared some words, saying things will eventually be figured out but that time is not now. “Everything will become clear later on,” Hornacek said. “You know, we want to respect whatever he’s going through. We’re just not going to comment on it.”

The Knicks do know that he is at least alright. Center Joakim Noah, who has played alongside Rose since 2008, said that the point guard is alright but would not elaborate on the situation any further.

"“I mean, I don’t really want to talk too much about it because I don’t really know what the situation is,” said Noah. “Obviously Derrick is one of our better players. And when he is not here it is tough. But I am just happy that everything is OK with him.”When asked about his health, Noah responded with, “Yeah. He’s OK … I think it’s a relief for all of us.”"

It is good to know that Rose is alright and not hurt. But, there is obviously some deeper problems here as a player disappearing prior to a game without notifying team officials or teammates is a weird situation.

Hopefully, everything works out, but this will be a situation that is monitored in the coming days as everyone waits to find out what has happened. The Knicks next play Thursday night on the road, coincidentally enough, against the Chicago Bulls. There has been no word on whether or not Rose will be at that game with the team.
