The Brooklyn Nets remain in last place in Marc Stein’s ESPN NBA Power Rankings.

Things have not gone great for the Brooklyn Nets this season. Unfortunately, this is an outcome that many people predicted before the season began. The Nets currently have a record of 8-28, which is worst in the NBA. As a result, they find themselves in last place of Marc Stein’s NBA Power Rankings on ESPN.

The Nets are not playing good basketball right now. They are riding an NBA-worst six-game losing streak, and have lost 11 of their last 12 games. They are playing without Jeremy Lin once again, who is dealing with his second hamstring injury of the season. The Nets had hoped the injury this time wasn’t as bad, but he remains without a timetable for his return.

With Lin sidelined the Nets have been relying on players in their backcourt that were ticketed for backup minutes, at best, coming into the regular season; rookie second-round pick Isaiah Whitehead has been pressed into starting duty as a result.

More from Brooklyn Nets

Here is what Stein had to say about the Nets being ranked 30th in his Power Rankings.

"The Nets have been almost respectable at home, but their familiar issues with second-half fades popped up again Sunday in a battle of basement-dwellers in the Atlantic Division that wound up sending Brooklyn to a sixth straight defeat despite an 11-point lead at the half. Brook Lopez leads all NBA centers in 3-pointers, with a 63-51 lead over Memphis’ Marc Gasol, but we’re hearing that the Nets would be willing to part with him before the Feb. 23 trade deadline if a team out there is willing to surrender two first-round picks. Next up for the team with the league’s worst record: Atlanta import Kenny Atkinson coaches against the Hawks for the first time."

Stein is right about the home/road splits for the Nets. A record of 7-11 is not bad by any means, which the Nets hold at Barclays Center. But, away from Barclays Center the Nets are an abysmal 1-17 despite averaging more points per game on the road.

The Nets probably won’t see many wins the rest of the season but they will be a team to keep an eye on for at least the next 4-6 weeks. With the NBA Trade Deadline right around the corner, the Nets have some pieces teams may look to add to bolster their postseason run.

Brook Lopez tops that list, and is the most valuable asset that the Nets have. Keep an eye on Trevor Booker and Bojan Bogdanovic, two more players having respectable seasons for the Nets.

As for the Power Rankings, it will take a lot to get out of the cellar. The Nets will have a chance this week to move up, as they finish their homestand against the Toronto Raptors and New Orleans Pelicans. They will then head on the road to face the Toronto Raptors before hosting the Houston Rockets.
