The New York Giants (knock on wood) look very healthy heading into their Wild Card week of practice and preparation.

The New York Giants are set to begin their preparations for their Wild Card matchup with the Green Bay Packers. This will be the first taste of the postseason for many players on the Giants, so this week of practice and preparation will have a different feel to it.

It would be smart for the Giants to lean on veterans such as Eli Manning, Jonathan Casillas, and Victor Cruz. There isn’t a whole lot of playoff experience on this roster, so the Giants should consider themselves lucky they have a two-time Super Bowl champion under center leading the way.

Despite his struggles, this season, his experience in the postseason give the Giants invaluable experience. It is something they can use to their advantage. Another thing working in favor of the Giants is the health of their team.

While the Giants defeated the Washington Redskins in the regular season finale, arguably the biggest takeaway from the game is that they didn’t suffer any major injuries.

More from New York Giants

"“We’re healthy for this time of year,” coach Ben McAdoo said Monday during a conference call with reporters."

Dwayne Harris was forced from the game at one point but returned in the second half. The player everyone had their eye on during the game was cornerback Janoris Jenkins, and he looks to have come out of the game unscathed.

Jenkins played only the first half against the Redskins after missing Week 16’s matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Jenkins was said to be sore after the game, but McAdoo expressed optimism on Jenkins chances of playing this weekend against the Packers.

"“He was sore after the ball game,” McAdoo said, “but we’ll take a look at him in practice this week.”"

Jenkins, leading up to the game against the Redskins, was not worried about his health for the postseason. Unless he suffers a major setback during practice this week, expect the Giants to have their shutdown corner available to them this weekend.

The only Giants starter that looks to have slim-to-none chances of playing against the Packers is defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul.

Pierre-Paul underwent surgery following the Giants’ Week 13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. His timetable was put at six weeks recovery, which would put him on pace to return during Championship Weekend. There was a rumor that Pierre-Paul could return early, but Wild Card weekend remains a longshot.

"“When JPP’s ready, they’ll let me know,” McAdoo said Monday when asked if Pierre-Paul would practice this week."

Pierre-Paul has yet to practice since undergoing surgery. It is a long shot that he gets those practices in this week, as four weeks recovery time is just not enough for the hernia injury that he suffered.

Three regulars were out against the Redskins, as tight end Jerell Adams, offensive lineman Bobby Hart, and defensive back Coty Sensabaugh all sat out. All three were seemingly withheld as a precautionary measure, with Hart’s absence being a coach’s decision. As a result, all three should be available to practice this week and play this weekend.

The Giants should consider themselves lucky with the health that they currently have. If they are only down Pierre-Paul, someone they played the final four games of the season without and went 3-1, they should be happy. At this point of the year no team or players are 100 percent healthy, so to be down only one starter, knock on wood, should be considered a win for the Giants.
