The New York Knicks and Charlotte Hornets will kick off a home-and-home series tonight. The first game will be played at Madison Square Garden tonight before they will face off tomorrow the Spectrum Center.

The Knicks will come into the game riding some momentum. They got back to the .500 mark with their victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Tuesday. That was their second consecutive win and their fourth win in five games. The Hornets come into the game off a loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night. They are riding a three-game losing streak, dropping their record to 8-6 on the season, and will be looking to snap that in the next two nights.

Home-and-homes are very tough to sweep, but the Knicks are heading into this one with all of the momenta. They are beginning to get things figured out on both ends of the court and Jeff Hornacek is figuring out his rotation. They will be tested once again this weekend by the Hornets.

The Hornets have a lot of talent in their backcourt and on the perimeter. They were able to retain Nicolas Batum in free agency, who combines with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to form one of the better perimeter combinations.

They also have Kemba Walker leading the show, who is blossoming into one of the better point guards not only in the Eastern Conference but in the NBA as a whole.

This will be a good measuring stick weekend for the Knicks. The Hornets qualified for the postseason last year and look poised to do it again. The Knicks want to make it back to the postseason for the first time since 2013 and to do that they will need to beat some of these teams clustered in the middle of the Eastern Conference.

There are a couple of players that will dictate which team wins the home-and-home series. Check out our slideshow of the six players to watch this weekend when the Knicks and Hornets play each other on back-to-back nights.
