New York Jets Brandon Marshall Calls Out Byron Maxwell
New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall called out Miami Dolphins cornerback Byron Maxwell leading up to their matchup this weekend.
The New York Jets are going to be facing off with their AFC East division rival Miami Dolphins this weekend. The fireworks have already started despite the game being multiple days away. The first shot comes from wide receiver Brandon Marshall, who had some choice words for Dolphins cornerback Byron Maxwell.
Marshall faced off with Maxwell last season when he was a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Marshall had one of his better games of the season, catching 10 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown. The Jets came out on the losing end, but Marshall got one over on Maxwell.
Despite the solid game, Marshall called Maxwell out for how he played, accusing him of foul play, as ESPN New York’s Rich Cimini put it.
“I played against him last year and he just held every single play,” Marshall said Wednesday. “Every single play he held. That was tough.”
Marshall said he’s “excited” for the rematch because, “I owe him one.”

Marshall put it on Maxwell last season, so we will have to see what he will repay him with. Getting a victory this time around would be a nice touch, as topping 10 receptions, 109 yards and a touchdown is pretty difficult to do.
Maxwell was called for two penalties against the Jets last season, both holding calls. Marshall said the Dolphins acquired Maxwell to slow him down and is ready for more of the same as he believes Maxwell hasn’t changed his game at all.
"“Still the same guy, still the same player,” he said. “Holds every single play.“I don’t know him, but I don’t like him,” Marshall continued. “I’m being honest with you. I never had a conversation with this guy. I think he’s probably a really nice guy. He seems like a really nice guy. He doesn’t say much on the field, but he holds every single play. I don’t like it.”"
While it may give Maxwell some bulletin board material, there was some strategy to Marshall calling him out. Marshall wants the officials to know that it is happening and be aware of the situation.
“It was frustrating at the time,” said Marshall, recalling last year’s contest. “I’m not going to let that get to me this time. I’m just going to bring it to him this game. So I’ll hold him and I’ll push him around. That’s the game it’s going to be.”

Maxwell has had a rough season with the Dolphins, getting benched once earlier in the season. He has been a huge bust since signing a big six-year, $64 million deal as a free agent in 2015. The Eagles dumped him, along with Kiko Alonso, in March with first round draft picks being swapped as well.
