Could the New York Jets trade Brandon Marshall? Greg A. Bedard of Sports Illustrated believes they should.

The New York Jets were able to pick up a victory over the Baltimore Ravens this past weekend. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Jets, moving their record to 2-5. While it was nice to get back in the win column, the Jets are still unlikely to make the postseason.

Because of that, the Jets could become a seller at the trade deadline. Yes, the NFL has a trade deadline but unlike the NBA and MLB, rarely are big named players moved. There are minor moves made, but we do not normally see someone of the caliber of say, Brandon Marshall moved. Could the Jets buck that trend this year?

Greg A. Bedard of Sports Illustrated believes that the Jets should buck the trend and move Marshall at the trade deadline. The NFL Trade Deadline is 4 PM ET November first, and Bedard believes that Marshall is someone that should be on the move come that time.

More from New York Jets

Over at SportsIllustrated.com, Bedard put together a list of six players that should be on the move by the trade deadline. Marshall landed on that list, as Bedard believes the Jets and Kansas City Chiefs should come together on a trade, with a second-round pick coming back to the Jets. Here is part of what Bedard had to say about the deal.

"The Chiefs have won two-straight to improve to 4–2 and their schedule could set them up to go on a long winning streak, just like they did to last season. The Jets, despite beating the Ravens, are 2–5 and going nowhere. They are in the midst of a rebuild with problems at quarterback, secondary, edge rusher and linebacker. Even though Eric Decker is lost for the season, having Marshall on the roster without a future quarterback makes no sense. Plus, he could blow up at anytime. And I’m sure he would love catching passes from the likes of Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg next season."

Bedard goes into more detail about how Marshall would help the Chiefs, and he is right. If the Chiefs want to advance in the postseason, they will more than likely have to defeat a team such as the New England Patriots or Pittsburgh Steelers. To do that, they need to become more explosive offensively, as both teams can score pretty much at will.

For the Jets, the aren’t going anywhere this season, so why not build the future? Marshall isn’t getting any younger, and Bedard points on an important issue. How long will the mercurial Marshall stand losing?

That is not something you want in the locker room, as it was reported he already got into a locker room dispute with Sheldon Richardson following a loss to the Chiefs earlier in the season. It is hard to imagine that things will get better if the Jets continue losing games.

Marshall is still a productive player, but the Jets could be better off with a second round pick. A victory this weekend against the Cleveland Browns may delay the inevitable, but this does not look like a playoff caliber team.

The front office may as well shop around and see what some of their veterans could fetch in a trade. It can’t hurt to pick up the phone and ask to see if an offer they like comes across.
