New York Jets injuries continued to add up Sunday afternoon against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The New York Jets had another tough weekend in Week 5. They were beaten thoroughly by the Pittsburgh Steelers, losing 31-13. Part of the struggles for the Jets was because of the important pieces that they were missing.

The Jets were already at a disadvantage going up against the Steelers being down three starters. Eric Decker, Darrelle Revis, and Brian Winters all missed the game, putting pressure on backups to step up. If those three weren’t tough enough for the Jets to overcome, they may have to replace two more veterans next week as well.

Against the Steelers, the Jets lost center Nick Mangold and linebacker, David Harris. Mangold suffered a leg injury and was on the doctor’s table on the sideline. He attempted to play through the injury he suffered earlier in the game, but eventually had to head to the sideline.

It was revealed that he injured his knee, and Mangold said after the game he will probably take an MRI tomorrow. Mangold was able to walk out of the locker room without a limp, but the fact he was forced from the game isn’t positive.

Davis was also injured and was forced from the game in the second quarter. He was forced from the game and did not return, as he injured his hamstring. Harris is the leader on the Jets defense, so losing him was a big blow.

In his place, the Jets turned to Erin Henderson to man the middle of their defense. As such the course was with Harris, the mental errors that plagued the Jets continued with Henderson calling the plays.

The Jets struggled mightily containing the Steelers explosive offense all afternoon. Le’Veon Bell was unstoppable as a receiver out of the backfield, continually gashing the Jets for chunk gains. He caught nine passes for 88 yards, as he was targeted 11 times. If you cannot show you can stop something, it will get exposed and the Steelers kept going back to the Bell well.

If the Jets are without Harris and Revis, their already suspect defense will become even more exposed. The Jets have a very strong front four, but things get weaker and weaker ever level behind them.

The Jets will have their hands full once again next week when they travel to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football. If they are unable to get back any of the starters that were inactive or the two that got hurt during the game against the Steelers, things could get ugly in Arizona.
