Sunday was expected to be a good game between the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals. The close spread listed by Las Vegas proved to be correct and we saw a good battle between two potential playoff teams.

While some are ready to hit the panic button on the Jets’ season, there was a lot to like about what we saw on the field. Even without Sheldon Richardson, their pass-rush was outstanding. Some of the new faces that general manager Mike Maccagnan brought in to replace losses in free agency worked out very nicely.

The Jets were criticised for their weak schedule being the main factor in their 10-6 record last season. A loss to the Bengals won’t help them get that monkey off their back, but they were certainly capable of winning the game.

With just under a minute to go in the fourth quarter, the Jets could have put a real scare in the Bengals if Ryan Fitzpatrick and Brandon Marshall were able to connect on a pass across the middle.

Unfortunately, the Jets made a few key mistakes in big spots that led to the loss. However, this is a loss to a good team and the Jets being in a position to win should bring some optimism for the rest of the season. If the offense can get their timing corrected a bit, they will be much-improved.

In addition to some mistakes on offense, the secondary will be a concern after seeing the damage that A.J. Green was able to do to them. Finally, here are some takeaways from the Jets’ Week 1 loss to the Bengals.
