Darrelle Revis is one of the few players on the New York Jets that have a Super Bowl ring. Does he think they have what it takes to accomplish that?

With training camp in full swing, the New York Jets have their eyes set on making the playoffs in 2016. Last season, they fell just short of reaching the postseason despite having a 10-6 record. However, 2016 was a huge improvement for the team compared to 2015.

With expectations being a bit higher for the Jets coming into this season, cornerback Darrelle Revis was asked if this team can compete for a Super Bowl.

“Yeah,” Revis told Connor Hughes of NJ Advance Media on Sunday. “We’ve got a lot of talent. We feel very confident with our team overall. The offense is booming, we’ve added some extra pieces, we’ve got Ryan [Fitzpatrick] back. We’re very confident in what we have.”

The Jets have seen a shakeup on the roster this offseason, with some notable changes. Defensive tackle Damon Harrison signed with the New York Giants. Running back Chris Ivory signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Also, left tackle D’Brickahaw Ferguson announced his retirement this offseason. Despite the losses, general manager Mike Maccagnan did a good job replacing all of the players the team lost.

One of the things that Revis notes as an improvement is head coach Todd Bowles being in his second season. Bowles was credited with having a good first season, but he did make some rookie mistakes learning on the job.

“It’s very tough having a first-year head coach and just expecting the moon and the stars,” Revis said to Hughes. “It’s difficult to bank on that even though you want to go out and win a Super Bowl your first year. I think guys this year are more confident because they’re more comfortable in the things we’re doing on both sides of the ball.”

While making the Super Bowl is an extremely difficult task, so is the beginning of the schedule for the Jets.

“It’s going to be a test for us, and we all understand that,” Revis said Hughes. “But we’re also confident that we’re deserving of the schedule we got. We’ll see how it goes.  “We know we have to be sharp coming into those games, and we have to have a sense of urgency in those games to get on those teams fast. We need to keep the momentum out of their hands, and in ours.”

While the start of the season will be a test for the Jets, they will also have to handle their business against teams they should beat. Last season, the Jets left a few winnable games on the table against the Buffalo Bills, costing them a playoff spot.

Super Bowl talk for the Jets isn’t out of the realm of possibility this season, but the Jets still have a lot of work to do. Revis knows what it takes to win in the NFL during his time in New England. Now, he will hopefully help bring a Lombardi Trophy to New York.
