The New York Yankees made the decision to trade Carlos Beltran to the Texas Rangers. Was this the right move for the future?

The MLB trade deadline turned out to be a very busy time for the New York Yankees, as general manager Brian Cashman did a very good job moving pieces to restock the Yankees’ farm system. One of the players that the Yankees were pressured to trade was outfielder Carlos Beltran, and just prior to the deadline, he was sent to the Texas Rangers.

Beltran has been the Yankees best hitter all season, but as a designated hitter and a free agent at the end of the season, the Yankees were compelled to move him. Beltran will be heading to a very good Rangers team that is poised for a postseason run, but he will miss his friends in New York.

“Unfortunately, this is what happens in baseball when you get to the point where you’re about to be a free agent, and you’re having a good season, things could happen,” Beltran said to Ryan Hatch of NJ.com. “I’m leaving behind a lot of good friendships, but at the end of the day I have to wish all these guys the best.”

Like many fans and members of the organization, Beltran is surprised that the Yankees were sellers at the trade deadline, but the lack of production on the field has forced the rebuild. Trading Beltran has brought the Yankees back in more prospects that can help them in the future, and he will get a chance to win a World Series this year.

“This organization’s never been this,” Beltran said to Hatch. “But it’s baseball man, the new generation. The organizations no longer are making dumb decisions, they’re trying to make right decisions, and smart decisions, and if they’re not contending, they’re going to try to get rid of some players and try to get something in return. that’s what the Yankees did”.

Beltran was asked if he thought the decision to trade him was a good move, and like many, he agreed that it makes sense.

“Based on the position we’re at as a team, I don’t know the chance of this team making it to the playoffs,” Beltran said to Hatch, later adding: “I don’t know how many prospects they got in [all the trades] … Maybe 10-12 prospects. That’s almost half a team. Hopefully out of those 12, if you can get three to four, maybe five, then that’s a good thing.”

The decision to trade the best hitter on the team was the right move by the organization, as they were able to acquire Dillon Tate, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2015 draft. Even though he has struggled in the minors, getting a player like Tate for a rental player in Beltran is extremely good value for the Yankees.

With the team not going anywhere this season, they made the smart trade Beltran, who will surely help the Rangers and their quest for a World Series this year.
