New York Yankees pitching Nathan Eovaldi looks to have finally turned a corner and gotten back on track in recent appearances.

The New York Yankees made a move with their starting rotation early in July, as they demoted Nathan Eovaldi to the bullpen. It was a move that made sense, as Eovaldi had been struggling mightily for multiple weeks.

After a good May that saw him go 5-0 with a 3.25 ERA, Eovladi imploded once the calendar turned to June. He went 0-3 in June with an ERA of 8.65, surrendering at least four runs in all five of his starts and making it through six innings only once.

He was given one start in July, but that turned out to be a disaster as well. The Chicago White Sox would crush Eovaldi, as he gave up six runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched, surrendering seven hits, two of which were home runs, and three walks.

That was finally enough for manager Joe Girardi, who decided that Eovaldi would shift to the bullpen for the foreseeable future. It is a move that seems to have worked out for everyone involved, as Eovaldi looks to have found some footing on the mound.

Eovaldi would make three appearances out of the bullpen, pitching 7 2/3 innings, allowing only only three hits with five walks and five strikeouts. What is most important though was that Eovaldi didn’t surrender a run, as he was able to limit any potential damage. He also picked up a win in relief of Masahiro Tanaka against the Cleveland Indians, pitching the final 4 1/3 innings of the game to get the win.

In part because of those performances, and in part out of desperation, Eovaldi was pegged as the starter Tuesday night in an important game against the Baltimore Orioles. Eovaldi would respond in a big way, as the Yankees would defeat the Orioles 7-1.

Eovaldi gave the Yankees 5 1/3 innings, throwing 82 pitches and surrendering only one run on four hits and two walks with one strikeout. Limiting base runners has always been a problem for Eovaldi, as he has a career 1.39, but for at least one night he was able to contain the damage as he surrendered only the one run and zero home runs against the team ranked fourth in the majors in runs scored and first in home runs.

It was another encouraging performance by Eovaldi, who looks like he could be turning a corner. The Yankees were counting on Eovaldi this season to be an anchor in their rotation, but he has come up woefully short.

They are hoping that he can get back on track now and help them win some games. But, if the Yankees go into a full fire sale, he is at least bolstering his value with some solid performances strung together consecutively.
