New York Islanders: 5 Potential Breakout Players
By Nick Ziegler
The New York Islanders have a lot of young talent heading into the 2016-17 season, but which players are ready to breakout?
Last season was a very successful one for the New York Islanders, as they were able to advance to the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 1993 season. As always, John Tavares was excellent for the Islanders last season, as he was able to have one of the best seasons of his career, and also had a very solid first round against the Florida Panthers.
The plan for the Islanders in recent years has been to build with their youth. That youth has certainly developed in recent years, as Tavares and Kyle Okposo became two very good players. While they were both early in their NHL careers, the Islanders were still adding young players in the draft due to the team not being very successful.
High draft picks have resulted in some more young talent for the Islanders, and the next wave of young players is preparing to make that jump to becoming stars. This offseason, the Islanders underwent some big changes, as Okposo, Frans Nielsen, and Matt Martin all left in free agency. The Islanders did make some nice signings by bringing in Andrew Ladd and Jason Chimera, but they are still counting on some of their young players to step up next season.
Here are five players that can potentially breakout for the Islanders in the 2016-17 season.
