New York Mets Concerned About David Wright’s Neck
New York Mets third baseman David Wright is now dealing with some neck soreness, and it is something that has some within the organization concerned.
The New York Mets have dealt with a number of injury issues this season. The latest one is with Lucas Duda, who has been sidelined with a stress fracture in his back. Another player dealing with a back issue throughout the season is David Wright.
The chronic condition of spinal stenosis that Wright is dealing with has been an issue all season and will continue to be. It limits some of the things he can do, as his throwing motion has changed as a result. He has also struggled at the plate with a batting average of .226 and only 15 extra-base hits, with his only saving grace being an impressive .350 on-base percentage.
Arguably the biggest issue facing Wright and the Mets is how often he can be in the lineup. Wright cannot play everyday any longer because of the back issue, and sits out at least one of the games when the Mets play an afternoon game after a night game. The Mets have been tinkering with and figuring out a plan to combat that, but now have another issue to deal with regarding Wright.
Wright was unable to play in Saturday night’s loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers because of discomfort in his neck. He was set to undergo some tests and be examined by a team doctor Saturday, but the team is nervous about what may come about from the tests.

There will be more information available in the next 24 hours, but general manager Sandy Alderson expressed “a little bit of concern” about the neck issue that has popped up, adding, “We’ll just have to see what happens over the next 24 hours.”
When asked about the issue, and what exactly the problem was, Alderson had very little to say. “It’s bothering him. I don’t want to get into it at this point, until we have more concrete information,” Alderson added.
Manager Terry Collins is hoping that Wright can return to the lineup for the Mets on Sunday when they face off with Clayton Kershaw on Sunday Night Baseball. At this time, it is unknown if Wright will be in the lineup, as the Mets are still trying to figure out what exactly it is that is wrong.
Until then, expect the Mets to take a cautious approach with Wright. He has enough to deal with already with the spinal stenosis, so having him play through a neck injury, no matter how minor, makes little sense.

Already dealing with the loss of Duda, the Mets are hopeful they will not have to replace another starter for the foreseeable future because of another injury.
