The New York Mets just wrapped up their 11-game road trip throughout the National League West, as they paid visits to the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies. It also ended a stretch of 17 straight days that the Mets played, so it can be argued that the Mets just wrapped up the most difficult stretch of games in their schedule for the season.

The results were mixed during the road trip, as the Mets looked to lose gas towards the end of it, and the offense sputtered throughout. The trip started and ended on low notes, as they lost the first two games before winning four of the next five. But, they will be returning home on a losing streak, as they lost the finale against the Dodgers before being swept out of Coors Field by the Rockies.

As a result, the Mets went 4-7 on the road trip, losing all of the momentum they built during their homestand at Citi Field when they went 7-2. The Mets will now look to build that momentum back up at home, as they will play their next six games at Citi Field starting with a series against the Washington Nationals that begins Tuesday and a weekend series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

If the Mets are going to get things back on track, there are a couple of things that they will need to clean up from the road trip. While the Mets had a couple of tough breaks, there were some things that they could have done better. 11 games is a long time to be on the road for, especially when there are no off days.

Before we set our focus on the big series against the Nationals, let’s take a look back at the road trip that the Mets just finished up. Check out our slideshow for some takeaways from the Mets west coast trip.
