The New York Giants went into the 2016 NFL Draft with a number of needs on both sides of the ball. Despite upgrading their defense with a free agent spending spree, there was still a lot of work to be done on that side of the ball. Linebacker has seemingly been a need for years now, while depth all around the defense wouldn’t hurt.

Offensively, the offensive line was a need as the right side of the line is a mess. Wide receiver was a bigger need than people thought, as there is a ton of question marks and uncertainty behind star Odell Beckham Jr.

The Giants were able to hit on a lot of their major needs, as they seemed to draft based on need more than best available for a majority of their picks. The only one that was probably based on best available was their first round pick, as the Giants watched the Tennessee Titans and Chicago Bears trade up to No.8 and No.9 to take the two players they supposedly coveted the most in Michigan State offensive tackle Jack Conklin and Georgia linebacker Leonard Floyd.

Despite what many consider a reach in Round 1, the Giants bounced back as the draft went on. They hit plenty of needs throughout the way, while also finding some great value the later the draft went on. It was surprising to see the Giants not take an offensive or defensive lineman, which was the first time in their franchise history that a lineman from either side of the ball wasn’t selected in the draft.

While there may have been lineman available at some of the spots the Giants were selecting, it is tough to argue against most of the picks that the Giants made. How do we think that the Giants did overall? We will be judging based on team need and ranking based on multiple big boards.
