Recent New York Yankees rumors are revolving around the possibility of veteran outfielder Nick Swisher being called up to the major league team.

New York Yankees rumors are beginning to pick up, but not for a positive reason. With so many players currently ailing, and disabled list stints still a possibility, the Yankees could be forced to make a roster move to get some more healthy players on the 25-man roster. Could one of those be former fan favorite Nick Swisher?

Swisher was signed by the Yankees to a minor league deal earlier this month after he was released by the Atlanta Braves during Spring Training. He has been with the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre since, and has been performing very well.

In 34 at-bats with the Triple-A team, Swisher has batted .382 with two home runs, showcasing that he still may have a little something left in the tank to help out a major league team. The Yankees could use some production like that currently, as their lineup has been hit hard in recent days with multiple players ailing.

First it was outfielder Aaron Hicks. On Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays, Hicks attempted to make a diving play in the gap, but injured his left shoulder. After reporting to no progress being made, Hicks was sent for an MRI and given a 4-5 day timetable to be out. There is a chance that he has to go on the DL if things do not improve after receiving a cortisone shot.

Joining him on the bench for the next couple of days will be Alex Rodriguez. The 40-year old DH was forced from Sunday’s game against the Rays with an oblique injury. The Yankees are holding out hope that he will not need to be on the DL, but nothing can be decided until Rodriguez’s MRI results are back.

Joe Girardi sounded like he was willing to play with a shorthanded bench for a couple of days if it meant keeping players off the DL. But, there is only so long the Yankees can go with only three players on their bench, as they currently only have some combination of Dustin Ackley, Austin Romine and Ronald Torreyes to go to.

Despite having so few options, the Yankees do not seem inclined to add someone to the roster at this current time. According to Brian Lewis of the New York Post, there are no immediate plans to call up Swisher or heralded prospect Aaron Judge.

While the Yankees are clearly in need of a boost to their lineup and bench, they are not yet ready to make a roster move to bring someone up. But you can be sure that if Rodriguez’s MRI does not come back clean, or Hicks is not able to get back on the field Wednesday or Thursday, the Yankees’ will have to make a roster move to get some healthy players on the roster.
