In recent New York Knicks rumors, Carmelo Anthony has reportedly voiced his opinion on who he wants to be the next head coach; Tom Thibodeau.

New York Knicks rumors will be running rampant in the coming weeks as they have a long do-to list for the offseason. At the top of that list will be finding a full-time head coach, as Kurt Rambis currently holds that role on an interim basis.

President Phil Jackson has been open about his admiration for Rambis, and his willingness to give him the job on a full-time basis. One person that does not make overly happy is Carmelo Anthony. Anthony has voiced his opinion on the matter and is hoping that the coaching search is opened up beyond just Rambis being handed the job. One person that Anthony is hoping is in the running for the job is former Chicago Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau.

According to sources that have talked to New York Daily News’ Frank Isola, Anthony prefers Thibodeau over Rambis returning as head coach. Anthony also said that he would like the coaching search to be opened up beyond Thibodeau at his exit interview this afternoon. Some other names to keep an eye on are former Knicks’ point guard and Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson, former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt and former Knicks’ point guard and Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Scott Brooks.

More from Carmelo Anthony

The quotes from Anthony speaks volumes to his opinion about Rambis being retained as head coach. The skepticism that Anthony has towards Rambis is a sentiment shared by many fans as well. Rambis has had no success as a head coach, going 65-164 with the Minnesota Timberwolves in two seasons. He wasn’t much better with the Knicks, going 9-19 after taking over for Derek Fisher, who was fired during a 1-9 stretch.

As much as Anthony doesn’t seem to want Rambis as head coach, ultimately the decision will come down to what Jackson wants, and at this current time it seems he wants Rambis. There have been rumors that Jackson wants Rambis as head coach and has been pushing for a multi-year deal to be extended to him.

Rambis fits the bill as a Phil guy, as he will run the triangle offense and the two have a strong relationship together. Jackson made it a point to say that his relationship is much stronger than the one he had with Fisher, that ended up working out about as poorly as it possibly could have for his first head coaching hire.

While Jackson may have a stronger relationship with Rambis, that does not necessarily mean that he is a good fit to become head coach of the Knicks. There are coaches out there with better, more accomplished track records, which is what the Knicks need right now. If they want to continue making strides and move closer to becoming a contender with Anthony as a building block, they need a coach that can make it work better than Rambis has shown he is capable of doing.
