The New York Islanders are facing the Florida Panthers in the first round of the NHL Playoffs, and here are five predictions for what should be an entertaining series.

It was another good season for the New York Islanders, who finished the season with 100 points in a very good Metropolitan Division. Despite being the best team in the Atlantic Conference and totaling 103 points this season, the Panthers were the team that fans of the Islanders and New York Rangers wanted to play this season.

The young Islanders haven’t had much success in the postseason yet, as their current core has been eliminated by the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals in two of the last three seasons. The Islanders nearly beat the Capitals last season, but not having home-ice in a close series might have cost them.

Heading into the playoffs, the Islanders are banged up with a few key players injured, but it appears their defense will be getting a boost with the return of Travis Hamonic. Hamonic is an important player for the Islanders, as the third best defenseman on the team will be welcomed back.

The Islanders will be without Jaroslav Halak for the series against the Panthers, but the team should have faith in Thomas Greiss, who has played well for them this season. The two teams have played very closely this season, as the Islanders have a 1-1-1 record this season against the Panthers.

With the series starting on Thursday night, here are five predictions for the first round matchup.
