The New York Knicks had a tough go at it against the Miami Heat Sunday evening, as they trailed the whole game and brought no energy to the court.

The New York Knicks came into tonight’s game against the Miami Heat with some momentum. They had put together an outstanding effort Friday while blowing out the Orlando Magic 108-95. Unfortunately, none of that momentum carried over as the Knicks just didn’t have it from the opening tip.

The Heat never trailed in the game, and led by as many as 11 points in the first quarter. They opened the game on a 13-2 run, as the Knicks didn’t score their first points until the 9:07 mark of the quarter. The Knicks would get it as close as two points in the first quarter, and finished it trailing by only four. But, whenever the Knicks made a run the Heat would quickly counter.

The Knicks managed only four points the first half of the second quarter, as the Heat opened up their lead once again, going up by as many as 16 points in the quarter. The Knicks would once again finish with a flurry, as they went into halftime down only five points.

If not for the work of Robin Lopez in the first half, the Knicks would have been dead in the water after the first half. Lopez finished the game with 14 points and 14 rebounds, adding two assists and three blocks.

The third quarter was more of the same, as the Knicks once again went down double-digits in the quarter. But once again, they would recover and finish with a flurry. They actually won the quarter 26-25, and went into the fourth quarter down only four points.

But like we have seen too often this season, the Knicks fell apart in the fourth quarter. After a rough fourth quarter against the Boston Celtics on Saturday, the Heat made sure it didn’t happen again tonight and pounded the Knicks in the final 12 minutes of the game. They would outscore the Knicks 29-16 in the quarter, putting the finishing touches on a game that it never really felt like they were in danger of losing.

The Knicks just didn’t have the same energy as the Heat tonight, as they looked a step slow. Dwyane Wade hurt the Knicks throughout the night, looking spry and quick against Knicks defenders seeming to be in quicksand. Wade finished the game with 26 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two steals as he continues to hurt the Knicks despite getting up their in age.

Joe Johnson had a strong debut for the Heat, scoring 15 points on 5-0f-10 from the field with three rebounds and three assists. Luol Deng had his double-double streak snapped at five, but scored 15 points with seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Hassan Whitside double-doubled off the bench, scoring 16 points with 11 rebounds. He also knocked down a couple of jump shots, something that is not normally in his repertoire. He added his normal defensive stats as well, blocking two shots and recording three steals.Former Knick Amar’e Stoudemire also had a nice game, showing he still has something left in the tank with eight points, seven rebounds, two assists and one block in only 22 minutes.

For the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony led the way with 25 points, but went only 9-of-24 from the field. He also added seven rebounds and four assists. He, Lopez and Lance Thomas off the bench were the only Knicks in double-figures tonight, as Thomas added 12.
