New York Knicks Rumors: The Knicks head coach position is a popular one, and Brian Shaw now is reportedly intrigued with taking the job.

With the New York Knicks moving in another direction with the firing of Derek Fisher as head coach, rumors will swirl about potential replacements. Hours after his firing, there were rumors about Tom Thibodeau wanting to become coach of the team, as people went as far as calling it his dream job.

There are some obstacles and hurdles that would need to be jumped for Thibodeau to return to the sideline that he was an assistant on from 1996-2004. Phil Jackson spoke about wanting to have a relationship with his new coach and for it to be someone that follows the same coaching philosophy that he used. That would presumably take Thibodeau out of the running, but you never know until a contract is signed.

One person that fits that criteria of being a Jackson guy that shares his views is Brian Shaw. Shaw played under Jackson when he was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers and also was his assistant coach once he retired. Shaw was regarded as a big time coaching prospect, as he was also an assistant coach with the Indiana Pacers before getting hired by the Denver Nuggets.

Shaw flamed out rather quickly with the Nuggets, barely lasting longer in his first head coach job than Fisher did. Shaw compiled an uninspiring record of 56-85, as the Nuggets’ players began to tune Shaw out and stopped listening to what he was saying.

That is something that will be difficult to come back from, but it helps when you are as close with a decision maker with the power that Jackson has. If anyone is going to give Shaw another chance at being a head coach, it would be Jackson.

If Jackson comes calling to Shaw for the job, there is a high likelihood that he would be interested. According to NJ.com, Shaw would be intrigued with the possibility of being the head coach of the Knicks.

NJ.com took a piece from a report from the New York Post, saying, “According to a friend, Shaw will be “intrigued” if the Knicks’ head coaching job officially opens up after the season. ‘He’s an NBA coach. That’s what he is. And he’s already been through one rodeo in Denver. Sometimes it takes a second job for a coach to be great.'”

While Jackson will more than likely give Shaw a serious look, he is someone that should be passed over. With other options such as Thibodeau and Scott Brooks available with better resumes, and another Jackson guy in Luke Walton that has shown promise, Shaw should be lucky to be considered at all after the disaster his parts of two seasons with the Nuggets was.
