Brooklyn Nets Rumors: Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov seems as if he’s not ready to give up on his mess of a roster.

The Nets are 14-39 this season after years of mismanagement in hopes of building a championship team. At ownership’s insistence, former general manager Billy King acquired big names like Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Joe Johnson and gave up numerous first-round picks.

With a roster bare of much talent to build around, and not many assets in the way of draft picks, it would be save to think that the Nets would be trying to acquire some. But, it seems that they are actually focusing on the opposie; trying to build up a flawed roster.

According to Howard Beck, instead of rebuilding, Prokhorov is planing on building on top of the team’s current roster, and is unwilling to deal players like Thaddeus Young and Brook Lopez.

The Nets do not own a first round draft pick for the next three years. Brooklyn has also been without a general manager for almost a month, and it appears the one who gets the job will have to have the same vision that Prokhorov has: dream big.

The general manager search is also something that Howard Beck commented on, tweeting out the following:

More from Empire Writes Back

Finding a general manager before the trade deadline has been goal of the Nets for a while now, and it looks like they may actually be able to accomplish that goal. It would be one of the few positives to come out of what has been a lost season for the Nets.

Since Prokhorov took over six years ago, he has put his all into building a championship team on the go, and has put a lot of money and risk into this philosophy. The results have fallen well short of his visions of an NBA Title, and he plans on staying the course that has brought him and the Brooklyn Nets down a dark path.

In continuing to swing for the fences, he turns down the idea of a patient rebuild that begins with dealing valuable big names like Lopez and Young for younger pieces that Brooklyn could build on.

The Nets will gain some financial flexibility after this season even with two years and $43.8 million left on center Brook Lopez’s contract, but it’s more of the same philosophy that has failed Brooklyn since Prokhorov’s arrival in 2010.
