The New York Giants had another player nominated for an off the field award, as Rashad Jennings was named a finalist for the NFLPA’s Byron “Whizzer” White Award.

The New York Giants had a difficult 2015 on the field, as they finished under .500 for the second consecutive season with a 6-10 record. It was the fourth straight season that the Giants missed the playoffs, and it resulted in Tom Coughlin stepped down as head coach and being replaced by his offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo.

While the results on the field were underwhelming, off of it some Giants players had success and were recognized for great things. First, quarterback Eli Manning was named a finalist for the Walter Payton Man Of The Year Award. That award recognizes a player’s excellence on and off the field.

Manning is not the only Giants player to be recognized for his work off the field, as running back Rashad Jennings has also been named a finalist for an award. James Kratch at NJ.com wrote an article about Jennings being named a finalist for the NFLPA’s Byron “Whizzer” White Award.

Along with Jennings, Carolina Panthers’ linebacker Thomas Davis, New Orleans Saints’ tight end Ben Watson, Detroit Lions’ linebacker Stephen Tulloch and Tennessee Titants’ tight end Delanie Walker were named finalist. Each of the finalists were nominated by their teammates, as each of the 32 NFL teams nominated a player. Each of those players will receive $5,000 to their charity, and the player who receives the award will receive $100,000.

According to a release from the NFLPA, the award is the highest honor the NFLPA can bestow on a player, and is meant to recognize players “who go above and beyond to perform community service in their team cities and hometowns.”

The article at NJ.com also has an excerpt from a release that details why Jennings was named as a finalist for the award. Here is what the release said:

"“Jennings seeks to help youth overcome educational and health challenges that impacted him as a child,” according to a release. “The Rashad Jennings Foundation’s mission is to make school fun by providing tools and mentorship for individual success while promoting health and fitness. The running back hosts annual football camps, family festivals reading challenges, holiday drives, and after-school character development programs.”"
