New York Knicks Rumors: Tony Wroten is not hiding his feelings about wanting to play for the Knicks; is it a mutual feeling from the team?

The New York Knicks are way ahead of last season’s pace at 22-25 despite a tough loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night, sans Carmelo Anthony. But, they are always looking for ways to improve their roster, as there are a currently a couple of spots that could use a little patching up.

The Knicks currently have plenty of depth in the front court, with veterans such as Lou Amundson and Kyle O’Quinn currently not in the rotation but at the end of the bench ready to play when called upon. Kevin Seraphin has also found himself in and out of the lineup, but gives Derek Fisher another option in the front court behind his starters Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis and Robin Lopez and rotation forwards Lance Thomas and Derrick Williams.

The same cannot be said for the backcourt though, where the Knicks have the most holes to cover up for and the least options to replace them with. The biggest problem recently has come at the point guard spot, which seems to be a yearly problem for the Knicks. Jose Calderon is the starter right now, but those days could be limited as he is once again struggling mightily defensively. It is putting a lot of pressure on the front court to cover up for his mistakes and creating matchup problems all over the court.

In addition, the Knicks do not have a veteran to turn to, as Sasha Vujacic is even worse. Their younger players, Langston Galloway and Jerian Grant, have been a great tandem off the bench and have been building great chemistry with each other. But, the Knicks cannot play them each for 48 minutes a game, so where can they turn?

There has been chatter for a while about the Knicks working the trade market for a point guard, with Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings often being mentioned. But, with an open roster spot, the Knicks could opt instead to find a new point guard on the free agent market.

There isn’t much on the free agent market at this time of year, but there is one player that could intrigue the Knicks; Tony Wroten. Wroten was released by the Philadelphia 76ers on December 24th to make room for Ish Smith, and he has not hit his feelings about playing for the Knicks.

According to sources the Knicks are one of a handful of teams monitoring Wroten, but their level of interest is not currently known. While that may not be known currently, it is no secret that Wroten would like to sign with and play for the Knicks. This goes against reports that said Wroten was unlikely to land with the Knicks because he was looking to sign in a place he could potentially stick in, but things can change.

Wroten would undoubtedly would be able to help the Knicks in some capacity if he was brought aboard. His size and ability to attack the basket, half of Wroten’s shots were at the rim last season, would greatly help a Knicks team that struggles at times to get to the free throw line and lacks players that can create their own shots.

But, the Knicks are waiting to fill their last roster spot, which is a smart decision to make. Maybe things will change in the future, but at this time Wroten may want to play for the Knicks more than the Knicks want Wroten to play for them.
