The New York Knicks were able to pick up the victory at Madison Square Garden Wednesday night, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 107-102. It was a tale of two halves for the Knicks, as they blew the Timberwolves out of the water in the first half, but allowed them back in the game in the second.

The Knicks led this game by as many as 22 points, and were ahead by 20 going into halftime. That lead quickly dissipated in the second half, as the Timberwolves came out ready to play after halftime while the Knicks seemed to leave all their energy and hustle in the locker room. After outscoring the Timberwolves 33-14 in the second quarter, the Timberwolves returned the favor in the third quarter, outscoring the Knicks 30-18 and cutting the lead to eight going into the fourth quarter.

The Timberwolves never backed down, as they brought the effort relentlessly in the second half to continue putting pressure on the Knicks. They never cracked though, as the Knicks knocked down free throws at the end of the game when they needed them to keep the Timberwolves at bay.

It was a strong effort from a young Timberwolves team that was without veterans Kevin Garnett and Kevin Martin tonight. They were playing their third game in four nights in a third city, but they didn’t look like the tired team tonight. They brought outstanding effort throughout and didn’t let the Knicks blow them out.

The Knicks got the stops and scores when they needed them though, eventually pulling out the victory. With the loss, the Timberwolves have now dropped four in a row and eight of their last nine. The Knicks on the other hand have now won two consecutive games and moved to 6-7 on the season at home. They will look to extend that winning streak Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Before we get to that game though, check out our slideshow for the takeaways from the victory tonight over the Timberwolves.
