New York Jets News: Darrelle Revis Status In Question

New York Jets News: Darrelle Revis‘ status is up in the air once again, which could be trouble against the New York Giants’ Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.

The New York Jets were able to get a much needed victory against the Miami Dolphins in Week 11 to get their record to 5-6. They were able to do it without star cornerback Darrelle Revis in the lineup, who was recovering from a head injury suffered against the Houston Texans. The Jets are hoping that Revis can get better for this week’s game, as they will have a tall task slowing down the New York Giants’ tandem of Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr.

Revis is nine days removed from suffering the injury, yet he is still in the concussion protocol. That makes his status for the game against the Giants uncertain in what is another important game against the Giants. At this point in the season, all games are important and the same goes for the Giants, who are tied for first in the NFC East with a 5-6 record.

They would like nothing more than to knock off their co-tenants of MetLife Stadium to get back on track. That will be a much easier thing to accomplish if Revis is not on the field, something head coach Todd Bowles did not seem very confident in happening.

“He’s making slight progress, but we’ll see how much progress he makes toward the end of the week,” Bowles said yesterday. When asked if Revis had begun physical activity again, Bowles responded with, “Not yet. I thought he did a little bit (Monday), but I’m not sure how much, though.”

After their win against the Dolphins, the Jets were actually given off Monday, so Revis more likely than not did very little work, if any. Last week Revis did not practice or even get into any meetings, as the team doctors sent him home every morning that he showed up to headquarters as he was not able to get cleared.

Without Revis, the Jets turned to Marcus Williams, but he also suffered an injury this past week, straining his MCL. If he and Revis are unable to go, Buster Skrine and Darrin Walls are the next men up. Former top pick Dee Milliner and last season’s draft pick Dexter McDougle were also mentioned as possibilities, but are long shots to give him production.

If Revis is unable to suit up, the Jets will find it difficult to slow down Beckham Jr. Despite the Giants struggles this season, he has picked up right where he left off after his record setting rookie campaign. The Jets allowed 351 passing yards and three touchdowns against the Dolphins, albeit much came in garbage time. But, those numbers could be in play once again with a better quarterback and wide receiver going agianst them in Manning and Beckham.
