The New York Knicks had their second Sunday matinee of the season, and for the second time they were able to pick up the victory. This time it was against the New Orleans Pelicans, as the Knicks defeated them by a score of 95-87.

It was a slow start to the game for the Knicks, who ended the first quarter down 27-23 but were able to get it going after that. The Knicks would win every quarter the rest of the game, outscoring the Pelicans 62-50 the remainder of the game. It was encouraging to see the Knicks come away with a victory in a fourth quarter that was tight once again.

Derek Fisher once again dug deep into his bench, and got solid performances from everyone he put out there to help secure the victory for the Knicks. With the victory, the Knicks moved their record to 5-6 on the season. That gives them four victories against teams that were in the postseason last year, which speaks to the improvements that they have made thus far this season.

For the Pelicans, it was another disappointing loss in what has been a disappointing season. They have fought injuries throughout the season, as players such as Tyreke Evans and Norris Cole haven’t yet taken the court this season. Anthony Davis has missed time and Jrue Holiday is on a strict minutes limit. That has led them to a rough 1-8 start, one that could be detrimental to their playoff hopes in a loaded Western Conference.

That is not a problem the Knicks have to worry about, as their path to the playoffs in the Eastern Conference is a lot easier of a road to travel. There is a lot of time until the playoffs though, and the Knicks have a lot of work until they can start thinking about the NBA’s second season.

The Knicks will look to continue on that path Tuesday when they get a second shot at the Charlotte Hornets. Before moving on to that game, let’s take a look at some takeaways from the victory over the Pelicans Sunday afternoon.
