The New York Knicks faced off with the Cleveland Cavaliers for the second time this season, and for the second time this season they suffered a heartbreaking defeat that they lost the game in the fourth quarter. Their fourth quarter struggles burned them once again, as the Knicks lost to the Cavaliers 90-84.

The Knicks were able to withstand a strong start from the Cavaliers to eventually take control of the game. They took that strong punch to start and delivered a counter of their own, going on a 18-5 run in the second quarter that helped get them a 53-46 lead at halftime. The third quarter was played relatively even, but then the Cavaliers owned the fourth quarter, winning it 24-12 and taking home the win.

With the loss, the Knicks are now riding a two-game losing streak and have a record of 4-6. Their home struggles continue, as they are 1-4 at home with the only victory being against the Los Angeles Lakers last weekend. They haven’t had the easiest schedule at home, playing against the Atlanta Hawks, San Antonio Spurs, Milwaukee Bucks and now Cavaliers.

Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are rolling, as they are riding an eight-game winning streak, which is the longest in the NBA other than the 10-0 start by the Golden State Warriors. They showed why they are on that winning streak once again against the Knicks tonight, as they turn it up in the fourth quarter when it counts and impose their will on opposing teams.

The Knicks have things to take away from the game, like from their other losses, but have yet to put them altogether. Eventually it will come, but defeating teams as strong as the Cavaliers and not executing at a near perfect level will always be difficult.

The Knicks will look to get back in the win column Sunday in another matinee against the New Orleans Pelicans. Before we get to covering that game, let’s take a look at some takeaways from the heartbreaking loss to the Cavaliers Friday night.
