The Brooklyn Nets continued their preseason Wednesday night, losing for the third time in four games. This time it was at the hands of the Boston Celtics, who ran their record to 3-0 while the Nets dropped to 1-3, by a score of 109-105.

The score may indicate a game that had some flow to it, but that was not the case. It was a struggle at times for the Nets, who didn’t shoot well from the field. They shot 35-of-87 (40.2 percent) overall and a not good but not great 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) from deep. Only Thaddeus Young was really able to get anything going, as he knocked down 9-of-17 for a team-high 19 points. He also added eight rebounds.

He was one of only three Nets to make at least half their shots in the game, as only Dahntay Jones and Justin Harper made half their shots; they attempted only six shots combined.

Another bright spot for the Nets was the play of Thomas Robinson. He struggled to score the ball, making only 1-of-5, but was a monster on the glass. in only 18 minutes on the court, Robinson pulled down 12 rebounds. He should be able to carve out a role on the team based on that skill alone, sort of the way Reggie Evans did it for the Nets just a couple of seasons ago.

Shane Larkin was also inserted into the starting lineup, and the results were mixed. You could tell the group wasn’t in a rhythm at the beginning, as the Celtics went up by as many as 11 points in the first quarter. But, things looked better at the start of the third quarter when they got Joe Johnson more involved. No Net starting player had a positive plus/minus ratio in the game as they had trouble containing the Celtics starting lineup.

Isaiah Thomas put together a well balanced game. He scored 17 points to go with nine assists, four rebounds and one steal in only 25 minutes. Amir Johnson led the way with 19 points and six rebounds, both team highs. Evan Turner and Jae Crowder were both in double-digits for points as well, as the Celtics had six players altogether reach at least 10 points; rookie R.J. Hunter and Kelly Olynyk both reached that mark off the bench.

Another note, Jarrett Jack was ejected in the second quarter for a hard foul he delivered to Jonas Jerebko. It was declared a flagrant-2, and he was sent to the showers early. He was deserving of the punishment given the situation since it was a preseason game and he didn’t make a play on the ball.

The Nets will play next on Sunday, October 18th at the Barclay’s Center against the Philadelphia 76ers.
