New York Giants Headline Week 4 ATS Picks

facebooktwitterreddit

This will be the first edition of a weekly ATS article where Kenneth Teape and myself battle it out for bragging rights and friendly wager that has yet to be determined. We will keep track of how we are doing each week against the spread and post an updated standings every week from here on out.

Week 4 has a few big games on the schedule with both the New York Giants and New York Jets playing big games against AFC East opponents. The lines we have used are from Covers.com, and Kenneth and myself will get the picks started in London with Jets playing the Miami Dolphins.

New York Jets (-1) vs. Miami Dolphins (+1)

Kenny: Dolphins (+1)

With Joe Philbin’s job possibly on the line, the Dolphins could be playing with more urgency. Also, Brian Winters‘ first start at right guard is to slow down Ndamukong Suh. Good luck.

Nick: Jets (-1)

The Jets were very banged up in Week 3 against the Eagles and that led to asking way to much from Ryan Fitzpatrick. With Ivory back and healthy, the Jets will have a much more balanced attack in a London win.

New York Giants (+5.5) vs. Buffalo Bills (-5.5)

Kenny: Giants (+5.5)

This is exactly the type of game Rex Ryan losses. His team looks great and people get back on their bandwagon, only to fall apart the next week. With LeSean McCoy and Sammy Watkins both out, the Giants defense should be able to handle the talent that is left offensively.

Nick: Bills (-5.5)

Rex Ryan has the Bills playing very well in 2015. The Bills may be banged up with Sammy Watkins and LeSean McCoy both hurt, but they should still be able to handle the Giants at home.

Jacksonville Jaguars (+9.5) vs. Indianapolis Colts (-9.5)

Kenny: Jaguars (+9.5)

Andrew Luck‘s shoulder injury looks to be worse than the Colts are letting on. If he does not suit up, this becomes one of the easiest bets of the week to make. It is a gamble to take it not knowing his status, but that’s what making bets is all about.

Nick: Jaguars (+9.5)

It is impossible to pick the Colts without knowing if Andrew Luck is going to play or not against the Jaguars. If Luck is out this line will look drastically different when the game starts.

Carolina Panthers (-3) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+3)

Kenny: Panthers (-3)

Jameis Winston has flashed at times, beating the Saints on the road in Week 2. But, this isn’t the Saints and Cam Newton is rolling. The Panthers will stay undefeated and continue their march to a third consecutive NFC South title.

Nick: Panthers (-3)

The Buccaneers have looked better since the disaster to start the season, but Cam Newton is playing too well right now to think that he will lose to Tampa Bay.

Philadelphia Eagles (-3) vs. Washington Redskins (+3)

Kenny: Redskins (+3)

In what will be a sloppy game because of inclement weather, I’ll take the home team with points. It will be at least one more week until the Eagles get their offense going as the weather will be too much to overcome. Also, the offense still has a lot of work to do outside of Ryan Mathews.

Nick: Eagles (-3)

The Eagles looked much better in Week 3 against the Jets, and the main reason for that was that they found their running game. The Redskins are coming off some extra rest, but that won’t be enough to stop the Eagles who appear ready to soar.

Oakland Raiders (-3) vs. Chicago Bears (+3)

Kenny: Raiders (-3)

The Raider offense is soaring with Derek Carr, Latavius Murray and Amari Cooper, and their defense has talent in Kahlil Mack and Aldon Smith. If Jimmy Clausen starts for the Bears again the Raiders should get the win despite the 1 PM ET game and travel from west coast.

Nick: Raiders (-3)

There is a lot to like about the Raiders’ offense and I believe that they will handle their business against a terrible Bears team despite the time differential.

Houston Texans (+6.5) vs. Atlanta Falcons (-6.5)

Kenny: Texans (+6.5)

The Falcons are better at home than on the road, but they have played close games virtually all season. They are probably the luckiest 3-0 team in the NFL, as they could easily be 1-2. With Arian Foster back, the Texans should be able to work the clock and keep it close.

Nick: Texans (+6.5)

This is a difficult pick without knowing the health of Foster, but Alfred Blue stepped up big time last week against the Buccaneers. The Texans should be able to keep the Falcons’ offense off the field with their running game.

Kansas City Chiefs (+4) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (-4)

Kenny: Bengals (-4)

I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop for the Bengals, but I don’t expect it to happen at a home game. Also, A.J. Green is rolling right now, don’t see the Chiefs slowing him down after just seeing what the Packers did to them, and how well Demaryius Thomas was in Week 2.

Nick: Bengals (-4)

Has the time come to believe in Andy Dalton and the Bengals? The Chiefs don’t appear to be an playoff team in 2015 which means the Bengals should be just fine in Week 4.

Cleveland Browns (+7.5) vs. San Diego Chargers (-7.5)

Kenny: Chargers (-7.5)

Until Johnny Manziel gets back under center to give opposing defenses something to worry about in his legs, the Browns will go nowhere. Expect Melvin Gordon to have the best game of his early career as the Browns run defense is very poor.

Nick: Chargers (-7.5)

I don’t love that the Chargers are banged up along the offensive line, but I find it almost impossible to have any faith in the Browns right now.

Green Bay Packers (-8) vs. San Francisco 49ers (+8)

Kenny: Packers (-8)

Green Bay is rolling, while the 49ers are not. Would you bet against Aaron Rodgers, counting on Colin Kaepernick after the showing he had last week? I think not.

Nick: Packers (-8)

Aaron Rodgers is the best quarterback in the league in my eyes. The way Colin Kaepernick played in Week 3 hurt those very same eyes. Packers look the the best team in the NFC and will stay undefeated.

St. Louis Rams: (+7) vs. Arizona Cardinals (-7)

Kenny: Rams (+7)

The Rams are trying to show that they are players in the NFC West. I do not expect them to win, but they have one big upset this season already under their belt, defeating the Seahawks Week 1. The Rams always seem to get up for tough opponents, and it will be the toughest defense the Cardinals face this season.

Nick: Cardinals (-7)

The Cardinals have been one of the best teams in football as long as Carson Palmer is under center. Palmer is healthy in 2015 and the Cardinals are rolling because of it.

Minnesota Vikings (+7) vs. Denver Broncos (-7)

Kenny: Broncos (-7)

The Vikings look like an up-and-coming team, but their offense hasn’t been great outside of Adrian Peterson. Against what looks like an elite defense, they could struggle to keep up with the Broncos who will move to 4-0 on the season.

Nick: Broncos (-7)

Adrian Peterson has been running the ball great this season, but he will likely be held in check against the Broncos’ run defense. This is a game that Teddy Bridgewater will need to step up in and nothing this season has shown that he will.

Dallas Cowboys (+3.5) vs. New Orleans Saints (-3.5)

Kenny: Saints (-3.5) After seeing what the Cowboys did in the first half and then second last week against the Falcons, it is clear they have some work to do. I’ll take an injured Drew Brees over a healthy Brandon Weeden any day.

Nick: Cowboys (+3.5)

Even with Drew Brees listed as probable., I’m not a believer in the Saints this season. If you lose at home to the Buccaneers you can lose to a team without their two best players.

Detroit Lions (+10) vs. Seattle Seahawks (-10)

Kenny: Seahawks (-10)

This isn’t quite Jimmy Clausen going into Seattle, but it is pretty close with how poor the Lions have looked. The Seahawks will continue to get back on track and dismantle a Lions team that is struggling mightily offensively; a problem you do not want to be having while visiting the Seahawks and their 12th man.

Nick: Seahawks (-10)

The Seahawks are a totally different team at home than on the road. The Lions come limping into Seattle with an 0-3 record which will turn to 0-4 after Monday Night Football.

There you have it!

Be sure to check back next week to see how we did picking against the spread!
