Recent New York Yankees news is surrounding the possibility of outfielder Aaron Judge being called up to spark the offense.

The Yankees have gone into a bit of a slump offensively lately with a few key players either being hurt or struggling.

After the injury to Mark Teixeira, the Yankees dipped into their farm system and called up hitting prospect Greg Bird. In his time filling in for Teixeira, Bird has played very well for the Yankees, and gave the Yankees’ offense a spark.

The Yankees have one more hitting prospect that some people thought would be called up, but according to Brian Cashman, Judge will not play for the Yankees in September.

“He’s not tearing it up in Triple-A right now, and I don’t see anybody at Triple-A being able to solve our problem at the major-league level right now,” Cashman told Brandan Kuty of NJ.com.

Judge started the 2015 in Double-A with the Trenton Thunder, and he played very well there. In Double-A, Judge totaled 12 homeruns, 44 RBIs, and a .284 batting average. After 63 games in Trenton, Judge’s play led to him being called up to the Yankees’ Triple-A team.

In Triple-A, Judge has struggled a bit, as he has totaled eight homeruns, 26 RBIs, and a .232 batting average. Judge has a lot of potential and was another one of the prospect that the Yankees said were untouchable, but he is in a bit of a funk in the minors right now.

The Yankees’ outfield isn’t in bad shape right now, as Carlos Beltran has been playing very well, and Chris Young is giving the Yankees enough in his platoon with Beltran. One thing that may change the minds of the Yankees about calling up Judge is if Jacoby Ellsbury’s hip is a major problem.

Ellsbury has missed a lot of time this season due to a sprained knee, and he also just recently missed Wednesday night’s game against the Houston Astros due to his hip. Things can happen that would lead to Judge’s name coming up again, but the plan is for him to not be called up this season.

The other benefit of not calling up Judge is that the Yankees don’t have to start his major league time, which can help them down the road.

September is almost here for the Yankees, as they are in a tight division battle with the Toronto Blue Jays. While the Blue Jays’ offense seems unstoppable right now, the Yankees’ offense need to find its groove.
