Wright has begun to increase his workouts and is going to be doing an intense five-day program. If all goes well for Wright and his back with the increased workouts, he will be sent for rehab assignments, and then a return to the Mets.

“I’m planning on coming back and being an everyday player,’’ Wright said to Kevin Kernan of the New York Post. “It’s nice to be back in the grind again, rather than being secluded to the therapy room.’’

“I was out there swinging with [hitting coach] Kevin Long, and for the first time in a while, the first question wasn’t, ‘How’s your back?’ It was more like, ‘Hey you should do this with your stride. I see this, let’s do this.’

“It was more like baseball talk than someone coming out for the millionth time, saying, ‘How’s your back?’

“I appreciate the care and everything but I would rather be talked to like a baseball player, not a patient in a therapy clinic.”

Wright has been out since April 8th, which seems like forever ago, and he must be dying to get back on the field with his first-place teammates.

“It’s been a long process and I like the fact we’re finally talking about baseball and no rehab and doctors,’’ Wright said to Kernan. “You put in all this work to finally get to the point where you are now.

“I think I’ve really enjoyed taking ground balls, and being on a baseball field. For two months you are having trouble standing for a while or walking. To be able now to go through a normal pregame routine, that makes you feel good about the process, about the work you put in, let it play out and now you can see the finish line. You know you are heading in the right direction and it feels good.’’

When Wright returns, he will be batting second in the new and improved Mets’ lineup.

“His on-base percentage is so good,” Collins said to Kernan. “He can run the bases. He brings a lot to the table. You look throughout the league now and there are big-name hitters, power guys hitting second. The new thing is to get all these guys up in that spot where they can get up more.’’

There has to still be concern for Wright, as the spinal stenosis can become a problem at any point. As of now, things are looking good for Wright and the red hot Mets.
