New York Yankees Rumors: Going all-in on David Price?

Recent New York Yankees rumors are surrounding one of the best pitchers in baseball, David Price.

According to Bob Nightengale, the Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, and Toronto Blue Jays are going to be trying to acquire the All-Star from the Detroit Tigers.

The Tigers have had a disappointing 2015 season, as the injury to Miguel Cabrera really hurt them. They are still around the .500 mark, but with the Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins ahead of them in the standings, a playoff push would be difficult.

Normally, the Tigers are one of the biggest buyers come the trade deadline, but now they could create a new best team in baseball by trading Price.

Price is entering the final year of his contract and will be a free agent at the end of the season, but the Tigers will still get a haul for his services.

This season, Price has been one of the bright spots for the Tigers, as he has totaled 9-4 record with a 2.53 ERA, as he made his fifth All-Star team this season.

The Yankees are no strangers to Price from his days with the Tampa Bay Rays, and they know he is one of the best pitchers in baseball. In his career, Price is 95-55 with a 3.13 ERA.

It was believed that the Tigers wouldn’t sell, but if Price is available, the Tigers are waving the white flag.

For the Yankees, their biggest need heading into a possible post season run is starting pitching. Masahiro Tanaka has been good for the Yankees this season, but hasn’t quite been as dominant as last season. Michael Pineda looks great some days and awful others, which isn’t ideal for postseason play.

The Yankees also have Ivan Nova, Nathan Eovaldi, and CC Sabathia in the rotation, and likely it will be either Nova or Eovaldi getting a start in the postseason. Sabathia has struggled so badly this season, that unless there is a miracle turn around, Sabathia shouldn’t be on the mound in the post season.

If the Yankees were to acquire Price, they would be getting a true No.1 starter for the postseason, and also move everyone in the rotation down a notch. A 1-2-3 of Price, Tanaka, and Pineda sounds pretty good heading into October, and could also help them land the best record in the AL for the rest of the season.

In order to acquire Price, the Yankees would likely have to part ways with a few of their prized prospects, but Price could make them the favorite in the AL. It will be a very difficult decision for Brian Cashman and the Yankees to make, but with the way they have been playing lately, they are true contenders.

The Kansas City Royals recently pulled off a big deal to acquire Johnny Cueto, and now it’s the Yankees’ turn to land themselves an ace.
