Brooklyn Nets Lose to Andrew Wiggins and Minnesota Timberwolves
By Nick Ziegler
The Brooklyn Nets had a bit of a letdown on Wednesday night as a home favorite against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Nets got off to a slow start that put them in a hole early, and certainly hurt them in their second loss of the season. The Nets are now 2-2 on the season, and here are a few takeaways from their loss to the Timberwolves.
Matchup of the Game Recap:
Brook Lopez drew a tough task in his second game back from injury having to go against the rugged Nikola Pekovic, and in the Timberwolves win, Pekovic won the matchup of the game against Lopez. Pekovic had a double-double with 16 points on 5-12 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds, and three assists. The Timberwolves’ center did an excellent job on Lopez, as he was held to just 10 points on 5-14 shooting with four turnovers, and had a negative 27 +/-.
Player of the Game: Joe Johnson
In the Nets’ loss, Johnson was able to provide a big chunk of the offense on a night where the Nets shockingly struggled against a poor defensive team. Johnson had a team-high 22 points on 9-17. Despite shooting the ball well once again, but there wasn’t enough support for Johnson in the loss.
– Andrew Wiggins Emerges
This year’s No. 1 pick Wiggins was quiet this season until Wednesday night against the Nets. The young Wiggins set a career-high with 17 points on 7-12 shooting. It was certainly the best game that Wiggins has had this season, and could be a sign of things to come for the Timberwolves’ guard.
– Deron Williams Shoots Well Again
The Nets’ point guard Williams was struggling with his shot in the first two games of the season, but in the last two seems to have found the stroke. In his last two games Williams has shot 50% from the field, combining for 12-24 shooting, which netted him 36 points in the last two games.

In the offseason the Nets pulled the trigger on a trade that brought Jack to Brooklyn to be their sixth man, and backup PG. Jack was able to put together probably his best game in the of the young season with 14 points on 5-8 shooting to go along with five rebounds and four assists. He only played 24 minutes against the Timberwolves which is a number that can certainly increase if he keeps playing well like he did on Wednesday.
– Milestone for KG
Kevin Garnett was able to notch another milestone in his Hall of Fame career against his former team. Garnett became just the fifth player to play 49,000 minutes in his career, as he joins Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elvin Hayes, Jason Kidd, and Karl Malone. He did however have a game to forget against his former team with a poor performance on the offensive end, scoring just 2 points on 1-7 shooting.
