New York Rangers' John Moore Suspended Two Games

The NHL has suspended New York Rangers’ defenseman John Moore two games for a hit he delivered during game five of the Rangers best of seven series against the Montreal Canadiens.

Moore delivered a blow to the head of Canadiens forward Dale Weise at 10:41 of the third period of the Rangers 7-4 loss at Montreal’s Bell Centre and he was assessed a five minute major and a game misconduct at the time of the incident.

The hit by Moore closely resembled a hit that was made against Rangers forward Derek Stepan during game three, which cased Stepan to miss game four of the series, by former Ranger Brandon Prust. Prust was not penalized on the ice but was assessed a two game ban by the league afterwards for the incident.

It stand to reason that for the sake of consistency Moore would receive an identical suspension by the league to Prust for similar offenses. Moore will miss the remainder of the Eastern Conference Finals, but would be eligible to return if the Rangers advance to the Stanley Cup finals. Prust will return to action for game six tomorrow night after serving two games.
