Rangers Beat Penguins, Force Game 7

And the New York Rangers are going to Pittsburgh for Game 7.

The Rangers came out strong for game six at the Garden, beating the Penguins 3 – 1. This is the sixth time in the past ten series the Rangers have gone to Game 7.

Martin St. Louis whose mother just recently passed away and with his father and sister in attendance scored the first goal of the night at 3:34 of the first period and his 3rd goal of the playoffs early in the first period. St. Louis received the first star of the game.

The Rangers didn’t stop there, Carl Hagelin scored on a backhanded shot at the 6 minute mark of the first period, extending the lead 2 – 0. Derick Brassard who also got the 3rd star of the game, scored in the second period, to push the Rangers to a safe two goal lead in the second.

Lundgvist made 36 saves out of 37 shots, earning the 2nd star of the game and extending his record to 9 – 2 in the past 11 elimination games.

The Penguins got on the board toward the end of the first, Brandon Sutter scoring on a deflected shot at 16:56. Sutter scored the only goal of the night for the Penguins.  Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleure stopped 26 out of 29 shots.

The Rangers on the verge of heading to a golf course have been on fire. Coming back from a 3 games to 1 deficit, the Rangers have found their power play and have started finding the net again. The Rangers rallying around St. Louis has helped pushed the team, to make this comeback and force a game 7.
