Who, What, Where and When: New York Yankees vs Baltimore Orioles, 2014 Yankees home opener, Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY, 1pm.
Today at 1 the Yankees play their first home game of the 2014 campaign against the division rival Baltimore Orioles. Any home opener would have been this selection, even with a semi-local team in UConn making the NCAA championship game, but this one is absolute no brainer given that it will e the final home opener in the storied career of Derek Jeter.
Prior to the 2014 season Jeter announced that this year would be the last of his career and it has set the stage to have every moment of the season amplified and viewed not just in the scope of any other season, but as “the last time Jeter will ever ______”.
The Yankees are 3-3 thus far on the young season, 1 game better than the 2-4 Orioles. Although it is very early in the year it is important to win divisional matchup, regardless of the time of year. The Yanks will look to get above the .500 mark this week against the O’s to pout some distance between themselves and their opponents. Certainly it is not of the utmost importance to win this series in the grand scheme of the season, but it is always a good thing to start the trend of taking care of divisional foes, especially on your home field.
