Albany, Syracuse Earn Berths in 2014 NCAA Tournament

On Sunday night, CBS revealed the 2014 NCAA Tournament Bracket. There were two New York teams that will be playing in the upcoming tournament; Albany and Syracuse.

The Great Danes (18-14 Overall, 9-7 America East Conference) was able to earn an automatic berth for winning the America East Conference Tournament. They were the fourth-seed in the conference tournament and they defeated second-seeded Stony Brook in the championship game; 69-60.

The Great Danes and Mount St. Mary’s College were both awarded the 16th-seed in the the South Region. They will face each other on Tuesday to determine who will be playing Florida in the second round.

New Yorkers can choose to root for numerous teams including the two teams that play in the state; the Great Danes or the Orange.

The Orange (27-5 Overall, 14-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) was able to earn an at-large berth in the upcoming tournament. They earned the second seed in the ACC Tournament and were eliminated in the third round of the tournament.

Seventh-seeded N.C. State defeated the Orange 66-63 in the third round of the aforementioned tournament.

The Orange had a superb regular season, which led to them earning the third-seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. They will be the third-seed in the South Region and will face 14th-seeded Western Michigan in the second round.

The first games in the NCAA Tournament will begin on Tuesday with the play-in games;  including the Great Danes-Blue Raiders game.

The NCAA Championship game will be on Apr. 7 in Arlington, Texas. There is a chance that one of the two New York teams could be playing in Arlington for the NCAA Championship.
