It was tough for me not to select the entire Men’s hockey tournament this week, especially since last week’s “Mc’s Pick”, USA vs. Russia, turned out to be one hell of a hockey game but I’ve decided to take this week’s selection back stateside.
The best New York sporting event going on this week is the Saturday night match up between the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors. The Warriors are currently sitting 8th in the Western Conference, but don’t let that fool you, the West is far superior to the East, you actually have to be good to make the playoffs out there. They have a 31-22 record, which would seed them 3rd in the East, and have arguable the best 1-2 shooting punch in the entire NBA with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson, so keep an eye on those two.
The Nets come out of the All-Star Break sitting in 7th in the East with a 24-27 record but will have to improve their road performances to secure themselves a playoff spot down the stretch. They are only 8-16 on the road so far this year. If this team can continue to gel together, as they seem to have been doing lately after their very rocky start, they have a legitimate chance at winning the Atlantic Division, they are only 3.5 games back of the division leading Toronto Raptors. A victory in the Bay Area would go a long way towards proving that the Nets are a threat to win the Atlantic.
