The end of the “Sanchize” era is officially here. It has been reported by Pro Football Talk that the embattled New York Jets quarterback will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.

Sanchez injured his right shoulder in a meaningless preseason game against the New York Giants. Instead of immediately having surgery to repair his torn labrum, the fifth year quarterback opted to rehab it and monitor its progress. Well, after seven weeks of rehab, Dr. James Andrews has advised the quarterback that his shoulder needs to be repaired surgically.

The writing is on the wall. With the Jets committed to rookie quarterback Geno Smith as their quarterback of the future, this leaves no room for former franchise quarterback. The future is uncertain for Sanchez, but one thing is certain: with his big contract, this is Mark Sanchez’s last season as a New York Jet.
