New York Mets ace Matt Harvey has always been clear about his desire to avoid having Tommy John surgery. At least for now, the young right-hander seems to be getting his wish.
Just days after visiting Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida for a second opinion, Harvey has decided to try to rehab his ailing elbow and then see how he feels in a few months, in an attempt to avoid going under the knife.
Of course if Harvey’s elbow does not respond to the rehab, surgery is still very much an option.
Harvey, who was a major bright spot for the Mets this season, had been 9-5 with a 2.27 ERA in 26 starts before getting shut down for the season. He struck out 191 and walked 31 in 178 1/3 innings.
