The New York Jets, who are lacking in weapons, are a few days away from the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and guess who may be making an appearance?
That’s correct, the elusive and explosive wide receiver Santonio Holmes may be ready to go and get on the field for Week 1. According to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News, the receiver, who has been rehabbing his left foot since last season’s Lisfranc injury, looked good in practice and could see some action against the Bucs.
This is huge news for the Jets organization and its fans, because of all the negative rumors swirling around Holmes and his foot. If Holmes is available, the team gets their best offensive weapon back, which helps out rookie quarterback Geno Smith. Holmes practiced on Monday and looked good running routes, and making cuts.
If he IS ready to go for Week 1, the big question will be: do they play him? Holmes has missed training camp and the entire preseason, and just started running and participating in practice. If the Jets rush him back for the first week, the team risks losing Holmes again if he gets injured—the receiver hasn’t played football, and hasn’t been hit in almost a year. Can he handle it?
If he does play, it could lead to an intriguing matchup between himself and former Jets cornerback Darelle Revis.
