New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter faced live pitching during a simulated game for the first time since going on the disabled list earlier this month.
The Yankees shortstop took swings at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida yesterday against one of the Yankees minor league pitchers.
Jeter also participated in infield drills, making leaping throws to first after fielding grounders. Jeter has been running during his rehab but has yet to run the bases, which is the next big step in the captain’s return.
Jeter is trying to get back in the lineup after missing almost all of this season with a strained right quadricep, and a calf injury. In limited time with the Yankees this season Jeter is hitting .211 (4 for 19) with one homerun and two RBIs.
