When will the New York Jets‘ top receiver Santonio Holmes come back?
The receiver was placed on the physically unable to perform list a few weeks ago, so it was expected that Holmes was going to miss training camp, but there was hope that he would make his return just in time to face the Tampa Bay Bucs in Week 1.
Well, that’s not looking like that will happen either.
The Jets season starts in less than five weeks and Holmes is not near making his return. The wide receiver told his close friends that he’s expecting to miss at least the first four games of the season. Unfortunate news for the Jets, who will owe Holmes $7.5 million in contract guarantees, regardless of if he plays or not.
Even if Holmes does return at some point this season, who knows if he’ll be the same player he was before his Lisfranc injury.
The Jets can turn to veteran receiver Braylon Edwards to get some offense going; they also have Jeremy Kerley, Stephen Hill and Clyde Gates who are both having good camps, but this receiver corps is not exactly a distinguished group, and the absence of the Jets’ top playmaker will hurt the team.
Holmes’ return to the Jets lineup this season is not known, but what is known (kind of) is that this will be the receiver’s last season with gang green.
