Good ol’ Joey McKnight up to no good again. Rich Cimini of ESPN New York reported that the fourth-year running back has failed the New York Jets’ conditioning test on Thursday, so because of that, the team has placed him on the physically unable to perform list.
Showing up to training camp out of shape? Again?
It’s hard to believe he would do so, when McKnight seemed determined to stay on the roster when speaking to reporters during the offseason. “I don’t care who they bring in, they’re going to have to kill me to take my spot. So, whoever they bring in, I don’t care,” McKnight said in May, after the Jets brought in Chris Ivory and Mike Goodson.
One would think that he would’ve learned his lesson the first time around when he showed up to camp out of shape his rookie season, back in 2010. He fought back and earned his spot on the Jets roster, standing out as a strong special teams returner, but never showed enough on offense to carve a role for himself.
Failing the conditioning test can’t bode well for the former fourth-round draft pick because he’s not guaranteed a spot on the roster. Add in new additions Mike Goodson and Chris Ivory, and McKnight’s future with the Jets looks bleak.
