The New York Jets start training camp on Friday, but they will be without their top wide receiver Santonio Holmes. Holmes, who is still recovering from a season ending foot injury that required two surgeries, has been placed on the team’s physically unable to perform list on Tuesday.
No surprise with that move, but it makes one wonder: When will he be back?
It’s still unknown how long the receiver will be out for, but the Jets and their fans are hoping that he’s ready by Week 1, to face the Tampa Bay Bucs. Holmes has not practiced under new Jets offensive coordinator, Marty Mornhinweg, or has participated in any football-related activities since suffering the lisfranc injury and undergoing the surgeries.
Holmes was non-committal on being ready for the season opener on September 8, saying he wants to get back into the swing of things without suffering any setbacks. The 29-year-old receiver is the Jets’ No. 1 offensive weapon, without him, the Jets are thin at the position and lack playmakers.
