The curious case of the New York Jets’ starting quarterback. With incumbent quarterback Mark Sanchez saying he has no intention of losing his starting position, and now rookie Geno Smith saying he feels he has a great shot at the starting position, things will start to get interesting over at Jets drive.
“I feel like I have a great shot,” said Smith. “I did a pretty good job overall of just adapting to the system and playbook and felt very comfortable with it by the end of OTAs and mandatory camp.”
Maybe Smith knows something we don’t?
It was reported that Mark Sanchez outplayed the rookie quarterback this offseason, but, not by much. Neither one of them did enough to say they’re the clear-cut starter for Week 1—which doesn’t say much about Sanchez’s performance this offseason.
The competition in Cortland for the starting quarterback job will be a fun one to keep track of because it will be close. Sanchez holds the edge for now because of his experience, but he hurt his chances with his horrendous play last season.
