The Yankees will be heading to Fenway to kick off their second half of the season and it the odds of coming out with a series win is looking very low for the Bronx Bombers.
July 19th: Yankees @ Red Sox (Pettitte vs Doubront) 7:10 PM ET
The Yankees will open the series up with Andy Pettitte taking the mound and he will be going against Felix Doubront. Doubront, 25, has been in scintillating form in July, only having an ERA of 1.98 and the Yankee bats just haven’t got it going against him as he holds an ERA of 1.50 against them. Lately, Andy Pettitte hasn’t been in the best form seeing his bright start, slip into a 7-6 record with an ERA of 4.39. I don’t see the Yankee bats getting hotter even after the break and even with Derek Jeter coming into the lineup, the Bombers are going to struggle to get any bombs against the Red Sox and with Boston streaking now, I see them taking this game 5-2.
July 20th: Yankees @ Red Sox (Kuroda vs Lackey) 4:05 PM ET
With the Yankees sending out arguably their best pitcher this season onto the mound for game two of this three game set against one of Boston’s best pitchers in John Lackey, this game has the makings of being a real pitching dual. With both pitchers having an ERA below 3 it seems hard to imagine that this game is loaded with runs but close games are always exciting. I feel that the Yankees will prevail though. Kuroda has been in scintillating form and was a major snub for the all star game this year. He has been consistent and has the potential to go for a whole game whereas Lackey starts to get inconsistent and sloppy with his pitching past the seventh inning. The Yankees will take game two of the three game set, 3-1.
July 21st: Yankees @ Red Sox (Sabathia vs Lester) 8:00 PM ET
The Yankees and Red Sox will be sending their aces to the mound on Sunday and it is sure to be a great pitching matchup. Lester and Sabathia both have an ERA above 4 but both have shown glimpses of great form and I believe that this game will bring out the best in both of them. They will both have great games but sadly in baseball, only one team prevails and it will be the Red Sox taking the first series of the second half with a 3-2 win and the Yankees will be then heading to Tampa Bay in hopes of getting some momentum going.
