The New York Yankees lost to the Tampa Bay Rays by the score of 8-3 on Sunday afternoon. The game took place at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida. CC Sabathia started for the Yankees and did not pitch well. Robinson Cano led the offense with two hits and David Adams had two RBI.
Sabathia pitched seven innings giving up seven hits and seven runs with a walk and five strikeouts. Sabathia lost his fourth game of the season. David Huff pitched an inning giving up a hit and a run with two walks and a strikeout.
Brett Gardner had a hit and an RBI, Cano had two hits and Travis Hafner drew a walk. Lyle Overbay drew a walk, Adams had a hit and two RBI and Ichiro Suzuki had a hit. Jayson Nix had a hit, Adams hit a double and Suzuki hit a triple. Gardner hit a homerun and Nix had a stolen base. The Yankees were 1-7 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base.
Alex Cobb won his sixth game of the season pitching 8 1/3 innings and giving up five hits and two runs with eight strikeouts. Cesar Ramos gave up a hit and a run with two walks and Joel Peralta pitched to two batters and struck them both out.
Desmond Jennings had a hit and an RBI, Evan Longoria had a hit and Ben Zobrist had a hit. Sean Rodriguez had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk, Yunel Escobar had two hits and an RBI and James Loney had a hit, two RBI and drew a walk. Jose Lobaton had a hit, an RBI and drew a walk, Sam Fuld had an RBI and Escobar and Jennings each hit a double. Rodriguez and Loney each hit a homerun. The Rays were 3-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base.
The Yankees record fell to 0-19 and the Rays improved their record to 25-24. The Yankees won two out of three in this series and will head to Citi Field to take on the Mets for two games before returning home for two games with the Mets.
